Ya know, there are times I wish I could drink without it killing me. This would be one of them.

[This is the most melancholy Reese has ever sounded. After months he's still here, and the feeling that he might not actually get out of this one is beginning to creep up on him. More than that, more than any of that, he's lonely.]

Gettin' fuckin' tired of milk.

Never had a whole lot of cash on me at one time back home.

[The whole 'wandering hero' thing doesn't exactly pay well. People don't just throw things your way like the stories say.]

[Reese slowly turns his head and stares at Kloe.]

Cash. Ya know, money?

[Where the hell is she from?]

[Post apocalyptic wasteland 80 years in the future.]

Oh. "Money". We don't have a monetary system where I'm from. Everything is rationed.

Huh, well that don't sound too fun.

[At least she doesn't have to worry about being broke. That's good right?]

The civilians trade for anything extra they might want in the market. Otherwise it works fine. Nobody starves.

Guess that works as long as ya actually got somethin' that's worth tradin'.

[So not too different really, but good luck getting people back home to go for that.]

Civilians who work in the agricultural district have all kinds of opportunities to make alcohol.

[Reese chuckles and takes a sip of cider. Oh this is good.]

Sounds like they're some lucky fellas.

Damn straight they are. I'd take that job over mine any day.

[Though she likes being a doctor. It's the zombie hunting she doesn't like so much.]

You and everyone else I'm bettin'.

[Of course all this talk is starting to remind him of Ada again, which is the very reason he wanted to start drinking in the first place.]

God damn I miss everyone right now.

At least you have people to miss.

[Jeez, Kloe, that's not very comforting. And she actually recognizes that right away. So she takes a quick drink of her cider as if to wash it away.]

...That sucks. I'm sorry.

[That stings, not because of what she said but because what it implies about her.]

Sounds like I could say the same thing fer ya.

I wasn't very well liked back in the City.

[There's no real bitterness in her voice about it. It's just... fact.]

Yeah well fuck them.

[Reese takes another drink from his glass. That's just the kind of guy his is. If someone doesn't like you then they can fuck off.]

[abstinentzombie]

[Well that caught her off guard. She was in the middle of taking another drink, too. Kloe ends up snorting a laugh, coughs, and just keeps laughing.]

[That's just entertaining right there.]

So you agree?

[Kloe coughs a few more times and sets her drink down.]

Yeah. Yeah I definitely agree.

[Try not to die there Kloe. You're his doctor.]

Cheers to that then. Fuck 'em all!

[And another drink.]

[She'll try really hard not to, honest.]

Fuck everybody, I hear you.

[Once she's done, you know, coughing up the cider she just inhaled, she takes another drink.]

It's pretty good advice.

I'm full of nuggets of wisdom like that.

[Reese pauses and thinks for a moment before taking another drink.]

I'm no good on the spot.

What a pity.

[And she downs the rest of whatever was in her cup.]
